Women Drivers

So today was the day Danica Patrick was supposed to make her name in the NASCAR world. She did, not for winning but for wrecking on lap 49. Like her wreck in the Bud Shootout on Thursday, this wreck was not her fault but still it continues to cast shadows on her driving ability. I will be the first to admit I am not a fan of Danica Patrick, not because she is a female, but because she didn't work her way up through the stock car ranks. The highest ranking female today was 19-year-old Johanna Long. Ms. Long was making her NASCAR Nationwide Series debut and ran a fairly clean race. So here is a round of applause for Johanna Long, the best woman driver in Daytona this weekend.

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

As hockey season begins to come to a close, today officially starts one of my favorite sports, stock car racing. Before I go on, yes I will admit I am a redneck. I love NASCAR and all the history involved with it. Growing up in Birmingham, Alabama I was a fan of the Alabama Gang. I along with thousands of Alabamians cried and cried till we couldn't cry anymore when Davey was killed. I was 13 at the time and it nearly broke my love of racing. That was then this is now, my favorite driver is Tony Stewart, when asked why I always state because he is the last of the old school racers. The drivers who would spin you out in order to win the race, and smile while they were doing it. I also like the Busch brothers, Kyle because in all the years I have followed NASCAR there have only been a handful of drivers I have seen that can do what he does with a car or truck. The only reason I like Kurt is he is an Alabama football fan. Lastly I am also a fan of Kevin Harvick, for a driver who was put on the big stage of NASCAR when and why he was, I think he has carried that weight better than most people would have. Anyways that is why I love this time of year, here is hoping your favorite driver has a good season, just not as good as mine. Till next time...

Singles Be Warned

So today is Valentines Day, the day lovers profess their undying love for each other. For others out there it is a more public reminder that you are single, whether it it is by choice or not. So while you are buying flowers and jewelry for the one that you love, take a moment to remember those that will be constantly reminded today, that there will be no flowers, chocolate, cards or jewelry. Happy Valentines to those who are in love and the ones still searching for love.

Oh Play Me Some Country Music

So the Grammy awards were last night, and well I can honestly say I didn’t really care. I am a country music fan primarily so the majority of the acts that won awards or performed I wouldn’t have known anyways. So I will talk about the country parts of the Grammy’s being that is what I know the most about anyways. The Best Country Duo/Group Performance winner I have only heard in passing so I cannot say whether they deserved the win or not. Best Country Solo Performance winner doesn't surprise me as Taylor Swift is going to win most awards. However Best Country Song I will have to disagree with. Mean was a good song, but God Gave Me You by Blake Shelton was a better song and deserved the win in my opinion. Best Country album they got right, Lady Antebellum has been on a meteoric rise the last year and is threatening to become the new king of the country music group mountain. Well that is my take on what I know about this years Grammy awards, congrats to all the winners.

Tipping, Not a City in China

While this blog is still young I might as well get this out of my system. Most of my friends know where I am going with this post. For the last 3 years and 2 months I have worked at a job that is somewhat tip dependent. Ok I'll admit it I am a pizza delivery driver. The company I work for currently charges a $1.99 delivery fee for every order. Well unfortunately people see the phrase "delivery fee" and assume that is a tip for the driver, well it's not. That delivery fee is the companies way of making sure that the mileage they pay the driver doesn't come out of their pockets. As a delivery driver I am responsible for all car maintenance, insurance, and any other expense thy goes with owning a car. In a nutshell the next time you decide to order a pizza for delivery no matter if it takes 15 minutes or an hour if your pizza is hot and the driver is polite tip him accordingly, you never know it might just be the extra dollar you tip that they need to make their next payment on something. I'm not gonna make this just about me as I know many people in the service industry. They all work hard for there money and no matter how bad their day has been they are supposed to provide service with a smile. If they do that be sure you tip accordingly, cause they work just as hard as you do for their money.

A Blog With No Name Just Isn't The Same

So today is Wednesday and I really couldn't think of a title for today's post. Well last night I made the trip to Auburn and saw the Alabama Crimson Tide extend their basketball over the Auburn Tigers to 4 games. It was a pleasant trip with no incidents. It seems that contrary to the national opinion Alabama & Auburn fans can get along with each other. I must say the new Auburn Arena is absolutely amazing. Not a bad seat in the house, easy to locate bathrooms, concessions, and fan shop. If your an Auburn fan you should be ashamed if you don't go down and support your team in that beautiful building. Anyways I guess that's all I've got, till next time...

Basketball Road Trip

Well tonight my friend Keith and I have decided to go to Auburn for the Alabama-Auburn basketball game, I feel I'm getting a good deal out of it, I drive and he buys the tickets. Only problem is we haven't had much success going to Alabama basketball road games. We are 0-2 lifetime in road trip games, but then again both of those games where at Vanderbilt where Alabama hasn't won in over 20 years. With this being a rivalry game I expect it to be fierce and physical, but hopefully we leave with a big "W". Till next time...

Super Sunday

So Super Sunday has come and gone and the Giants are Super Bowl Champions. Aside from working in an industry that requires working on this day,  I have come to realize that I really don't care for the Super Bowl anymore. It's not that I'm not a football fan, I just don't care. I am happy for the friends of mine who are fans of the team that wins every year, but otherwise that's the extent of it. It is actually to the point of it for me that I DVR'd it and as I type this, fast forwarding through the game just to see which commercial was the best and worst. As for the halftime show which I did get to see because we were so slow at work, what a joke of a show. You have a singer that cannot lip sync with her own music, a performance that had some people asking if they should have took acid before watching, and music that drowned out the bad lip syncing to begin with. When is the NFL gonna wise up and schedule a good decent singer/performer that was born after 1975? Anyways that's the end of my thoughts on Super Sunday, congrats to the Giants fans and the bandwagon fans who were Packers fans last season. Till next time...

Time Flies

As I lay here on this bus I just realized yesterday was the 7th anniversary of my Dads death. I don't know what to say or think about the fact that the whole day went by and I didn't notice. It's not that I have forgotten my Dad, if anything I tend to think about and miss him more lately than I did the first few years. For those who never knew my Dad he is one of the reasons I love traveling like I do. He used to tell me the stories of when he was younger just taking off and going places, he even once on a whim drove from Birmingham to Key West to go scuba diving. Once I became of age to drive we had the chance to take a couple of father son road trips which I will always remember and cherish those times. Although its been seven short years I still love and miss ya Dad.
