My Time in Jury Duty The Boredom Report

For the first time in my time of being eligible for jury service my time was finally called. So today on January 7, 2013 I began my sentence it what is the equivalent of what I think purgatory would be like.

After arriving at the jury waiting room at the bright early time of 8:30AM we sat and waited to be sworn in. We then watched as 18 poor souls well called to serve on a grand jury, we know they are not the fortunate ones. The suffering began as the jury room is a rather large room with windows around half of it. I unfortunately chose a seat beside a window with no shades. The heat radiating from the sun through that window was a temperature that is normal reserved for tanning beds and cakes in ovens. The lone bright side of the day so far was that the courts are running slow today which means we received a 2+ hour lunch break. The downside to that break is now I am sleepy after eating. After returning from lunch, immediately 30 more people realized their fate to become a juror. I smiled as I realized I was not one of them. Now don’t get me wrong, I will gladly serve if I am chosen, but I am now kicked back with my legs propped up, and I’m not really ready to go anywhere. More boring tails to come later…

Live from the jury room, I’m still bored.

Update: #1

Since I posted this, another 90 folks have been called to the land of arguments and objections. 60 of those 90 were fortunate, they were reprieved from a day of waiting as the trials they were selected for will not begin till tomorrow morning.  As I type this, another 30 people are getting the call, the cluster of 5 that were with me wilting in the morning sun have been whittled down to just me. So maybe I will get the call either for a trial or to go home. right now it appears that I will get to spend a second day in jury purgatory.
